Unified storage can be highly beneficial to companies that embrace it, one technology expert has claimed.
Greg Schulz, founder of StorageIO.com and author of Cloud and Virtual Data Storage Networking, said unified storage is easy to acquire, deploy, re-deploy and upgrade, making it the perfect solution for companies hoping to improve their data management systems.
He commented: "Generally speaking, unified storage should be as efficient as dedicated block, file or object-based systems, however, the devil can be in the details."
Indeed, Mr Schulz noted some systems perform better at block, some at file, while some are good at both forms of storage.
However, what is clear is that unified storage has the ability to adapt on a performance standpoint, without impacting upon efficiency or data availability.
According to Bob Plumridge, chairman of SNIA Europe, unified storage offers flexibility for businesses, enabling them to update their networks and data without massive headaches over compatibility and cost.
